Why was my letter blocked?

We block any letter that contains self-harm, violent threats, or sexual content involving minors. We will never let you send something life-threatening. Try saying the feeling underneath instead.

Can I unsend a letter?

Accepted Answer

You have a 60-second undo window after sending. Tap Recall and the letter is hard-deleted from the recipient's inbox, your Sent list, and our servers — as if it never existed. After 60 seconds, it belongs to the recipient.

Can I get a letter back after the recipient reads it?

No. Once read, the body is permanently erased on every side — sender, recipient, and server. Only anonymized performance metadata remains.

Will I know who sent me a letter?

No. Recipients never see the sender's handle, email, or any identifier. The sender field is sealed at the server level — even our staff cannot match a letter to a sender without a court order tied to a safety report.

Yes — sealed reply. You can send one anonymous reply back. We route it without revealing either side's identity, even to each other.

What does 'Keep for 24 hours' do?

After reading, you can let the letter dissolve immediately or hold it for 24 hours so you can re-open or report it. The 24-hour deadline is set the first time you choose it — re-opening the letter does not extend it. After it expires, the body is permanently purged.

Why does a letter disappear after one read?

By design. One read, then gone. Unread letters wait indefinitely until you open them — but once you open and close one without holding it, you can't bring it back.

What is the 'What now?' choice after reading?

After your first read, you choose what happens next: let it dissolve, hold it for 24 hours, or send a sealed reply. On any re-read inside the 24-hour hold, the choice doesn't reappear — closing simply returns you to the inbox.

What is a Pen Friend?

After reading an anonymous letter, you can save that writer as a Pen Friend. Future letters from them group together in your inbox under a pen name you choose — they stay anonymous, but the thread becomes continuous.

Does the sender know I saved them as a Pen Friend?

No. Saving, renaming, and closing a Pen Friend happens only on the recipient's side. The sender is never notified and cannot tell whether you grouped them or not.

How do I close a Pen Friend?

Open the Pen Friend thread and tap Close Pen Friend. You'll be asked whether to keep existing letters as normal anonymous letters, or burn them all and close. Either way, future letters from that sender land as fresh sealed envelopes.

Can I rename a Pen Friend?

Yes. Tap the edit icon next to the pen name. Renames are local to your inbox — the sender never sees the name you chose.

What is the Companion?

A private chat that helps you find the words for what you can't say out loud yet — drafting a letter, untangling a feeling, or just thinking through something hard. Conversations live only in your account.

Each Companion (Best Friend, Mentor, Guide, and others) has its own voice and posture. Best Friend is warm and direct; Mentor is steady and practical; Guide draws on classic wisdom traditions. Pick the one whose tone fits the moment.

Where does Guide's wisdom come from?

Guide cites the tradition and title it's drawing from (for example, the school of strategy or the named work) so you can recognise the lineage. We don't disclose specific authors, translators, or editions — the source is the tradition, not any one voice.

How is Companion billed?

Pay-as-you-go from a prepaid wallet. Each message is charged at its exact cost (down to fractions of a cent — we never round up). Your wallet balance shows in the top nav; per-conversation spend shows in the chat header.

What does 'Clear all (24h undo)' do in Companion?

It wipes the messages in your Companion conversations and gives you 24 hours to undo. Your conversation names (Best Friend, Mentor, etc.) are never deleted — only the messages inside them.

A two-way anonymous connection between two UnsaidX members who have both opted in. Trusted Friends can exchange sealed messages directly — still without seeing each other's real identity — until both choose to reveal.

How do I become Trusted Friends with someone?

From a Pen Friend thread or a sealed reply chain, either side can send a Trusted Friend request. It only becomes active when the other person accepts. You can withdraw or decline at any time.

What is a mutual reveal?

Both Trusted Friends must tap 'Reveal together' before either of you sees the other's handle, name, or avatar. Neither side learns who proposed first if the other declines. Once revealed, it can't be undone.

What happens if I decline a reveal?

The proposal is politely closed and the other person sees only 'Not yet'. A 72-hour cooldown prevents repeat pressure. You stay Trusted Friends — anonymous — unless you choose to end the connection.

What does sharing address or coordinates do?

After a mutual reveal, each side can independently opt in to share their address or approximate coordinates. You only see theirs if they have also opted in for you. You can turn it off again at any time.

Can I undo a reveal?

No — a completed reveal is permanent. You can still remove the Trusted Friend connection from your account, which stops further sealed messages, but the identity you already saw cannot be un-seen.

Tap Report while reading, or within the 24-hour hold window. Reported letters are preserved as evidence, the sender is suspended pending review, and we audit the invite chain that brought them in.

What happens to the sender of an abusive letter?

Account suspended, message preserved for review, and the person who invited them is notified. Severe cases (threats, CSAM, stalking) are escalated to law enforcement with a preservation order.

Sender identity is decoupled from message content in our database and never returned through any client API. Even with full database access, you cannot read a message and know who sent it without a verified safety report.
